The Dakka thread is over 200 pages now & is mostly filled with bickering about how rumoured rules will work - ie getting very tedious.
I'm a bit pissed myself as 6 didn't come out that long ago + I got the Escalation book for Christmas which was disappointing anyway but is useless now. (anyone want to buy one or do you reckon I can get my cash back at the GW store stating that my sis got it for me a couple of weeks ago as a 'thank you' for lending her some cash or car or whatever??).
The splitting of the book into 3 is a good idea as you won't have to lug a brick around when gaming. A better idea is just to sell a mini book but then that would stop GW being able to copy & paste fluff from previous editions & charge us for the privilege of paying for it again!

How many of you will be picking up a copy this Saturday, who's going to wait to see how it's received / how the new rules affect game-play, will continue using 6 until everyone else has 7 or giving up 40K due to GW dicking us around so much recently?

I will be waiting to see how the new rules affect game-play & then might get the epub version (by then the FAQ should have been released & incorporated!!) Then again I might just give in to temptation & buying it Sunday as an impulse buy to sooth my depression for an hour or so before the guilt sets in! ;)

btw - can you set up polls on this forum?

I'm happy to wait for the new starter set, unless there's a massive change of policy it will come with a mini rulebook.

I feel there is very little point discussing it until it is out, to be honest.
I am annoyed that we have another ruleset so soon. £50 every two years is not a huge amount of my money but I still haven't full gotten to grips with 6th! If this is the new pace of editions for 40K, count me out.
You should be able to make polls.

I'll be waiting and watching. And there's actually a lot of players at the club grumbling about going back to 4th if it doesn't fix 6th ed (or 5th ed with more plasters and half-arsed solutions). And yes, I will be joining them in the 4th edition, let the good times and dice roll!

Which edition of the chaos marine codex would I need to play 4th? I'm sure i have the rules & other codexs from then but didn't play CSM at the time.

It's all right - found it on the net (which one not the actual book). Might actually have it already!

I dont feel this is a good idea, I think 6th has issues but they should be solvable ala the whole 3rd and 3.5 issue. Personally I think this is more about money then anything else, sales need a push so they re-release their biggest seller. The turnaround date (2 years ?) is grating compared to the good 'ol 6th ed fantasy/3rd ed 40k (6 years ?) and the rumoured rules (unbound ect) are worrying. However if GW have learnt from their colleagues then perhaps this could be a great edition. I have my salt ready though.

Zak, what's a 'meme' edition. I'm getting a bit old & can't keep up with you youngens & your slang!

Say, isn't that the edition where Necrons were the most beardy army in the game?

I certainly think that the terrain rules were the best in 4th.

I thought 'crons were more beardy in 5th ? Could be wrong though.

I loved the missions in 4th, especially the 'youve got limited ammo so one round of shooting then close combat only' one.

Wrong. Oldcrons, or good fluff Necrons, stopped working in 5th. It took until the Newcron codex to get them working again. And yes, while you can apply enough pressure to break the game (cron air, 2+ wounding ap2 flamer spam) anyone with a 3rd/4th ed army and not a lot of modernisation money like myself could never take advantage of it.

Screw it, just ordered a copy.

Necrons were far worse in 4th.  Along with Siren Lords, Tau, dual assault cannon 5man termites and my personal favourite, Lelith and the Wych Cult. Every edition is broken to some degree, rose tinted specs and all that.

I'm more interested in one page 40k tbh, though I do like the hearkening back to RT/2nd ed with the three books. Some have titled this edition as 'Second ed : The revenge'.

I'm happy with 6th ed, but here are some things that I hope are changed:

No more super duper best friend units. Allies are cool and totally fluffy, but there are separate codexes for a reason.

Challenges. Bloodthirster's descending like a comet into the middle of a guard platoon, whose mighty wings beating the air into submission would crush the lungs of a man, landing with a shockwave enough to fracture the earth, is brought to heel by an errant semi literate oik with three stripes with a meek "Oi, fella!"

Ignores Cover. Far too good and easy to access.

Overwatch. Needs to be a down side, especially with Tau.

Divination. Does anyone even look at the other powers?

True line of sight. Doesn't make any sense. You can't see my grot through the flimsy wriggly tin wall, so you can't shoot him. Space Marines, with an extra bazillion senses, auto targeters built in to helmets and guns, ammo that can track its target, how about a lascannon that shoot through a land raider hull, cannot possibly hurt that grot. Seems legit.

It's my kind of rules tbh, not too complicated yet has enough meat on it that your imagination does the rest. I'm alos interested in some of their future stuff like one page titanfall rules etc.

In my opinion, if you didn't like 6th, don't buy this edition. Never thought I'd say that about 40k.

Assault phase is almost completely redundant, assault based armies are a waste of time.

Pysker heavy armies will piss over everyone (congrats Crabid, Thousands Sons will be the tits)

Vehicles only blow up on a 7. Super heavies got even better (therefore compulsory)

I honestly don't think there will be any skill in playing this game anymore, its going to be a case of picking a nasty combo and hoping for the first turn.

I have to agree, take a load of cheap psykers and change them into greater deamons and the game is yours. deny the witch got harder for armies with little psychic presence ie tau.

other than demonolgy psychic tables 7th is mostly the same with only a few changes rules. some of which make a little more sence such as vector strike being only one attack ect...
