Huh! SOME of the historical players want to post!

I've been attending the club regularly for about a year now.

I wanted, after a gap of some 20 years or so, to get back into "Ancients" and observing 4 or 5 regular players I bit the bullet.

John, John, Craig, Mike and Ben welcomed me into their clique, and coached me in the vagaries of DBMM.

This meant cutting all my figures off of bases set for either WRG 7th Edition rues, or Warhammer Ancient Battles Rules, and re-basing for DBMM

Then there was the task of collecting Army Lists (so as to field a historically accurate army) and mastering Phil Barkers rules. Not easy.

...........................................

Craig it was, who switched to L.A.D.G. rules, and encouraged by the glossy production, I promptly jumped ship myself.

I felt a little guilty at having turned my back on the DBMM die-hards, but it had to be done

So I set to - again re-basing lots of figures.... so far (on a notional 200-point Army, per battle, I can field

15mm Libyans ~650pts

15mm Greeks ~  960pts (which can be Syracusans; Carthaginians, etc)

15mm Sassanids ~ not yet fully painted, but on-line soon

25mm Nubians ~ 500 points worth? not fought a batle with them yet...

25mm Greeks ~ ?? (which can be Alexandrians, Seleucid etc)

25mm Sassanid ~

25mm Ancient British (Airfix)

25mm Egyptian (Atlantic)

I look forward to playing all of these over the next months

I'm always iffy about Ancients. Never a period of history that appealed to me I think. Too far back and everyone's just wearing cotton tunics, too far forward and Romans roflstomp everything.

Keep it up though, always good to see more posts on the forum.

Jamie is trying to convert me to LAdG but I like DBA too much: minimal painting and short but very subtle games.

Saga: Hospitallers - Malifaux: The Guild - Bushido: Ro Kan - Bolt Action: British- Muskets and Tomahawks: French (regrettably).

My problem is a lack of interest in the more popular periods. I will be giving DBA a go as I think it caters for my Azuchi–Momoyama period Japan interests.

Medieval & Renaissance Europe and ancient Greece & Rome. Probably Napoleonics, too.

Funny you should mention Napoleonics Ben. I have just bought 16 28mm Perry figures for A Song of Drums and Shakos. Ultra-easy Napoleonic skirmish game. I managed to talk Jamie's into getting a set,£8. They won Origins Best Historical rules in 2009 and belong to the 'A Song of Blades and Heroes' family (I have the French-Indian version as well). I bought some Bavarian schutzen. Of course you could pick up a box of Victrix plastic for £20, they have 60 figures in a box enough to go round 3 players.

I'm something of a fan of Napoleonics after reading the entirety of the Sharpe novels, though i'd never play it in 28mm unless it was Skirmish. That way lies madness. Renaissance I'm not so hot on, that's Pike and Shot kind of right ?

Perry do some nice 95th Rifles, 'Chosen Men'. Pick a skirmishing force up for £14.
