I never claimed that it was an unbiased report but it was really the most noble Normans against a bunch of peasants.  A well mounted dressed cavalry force verses dogs and sneaky turnip throwers.

The Irish scouts returned home with information that they had seen the Vikings but they were not heading towards the town, chances are they will be back soon so we will remain battle ready.

Game report: 2

The Anglo Danes raid the peace loving Norman lands seeking plunder, Conor having the learned trait gets to choose the scenario from either sacred ground, escort or harry and burn and elects for the sacred round scenario.

The Anglo Dane force is Warlord, 4 hearth, 4 hearth, 8 Warriors and 8 warriors.

Norman force is Warlord, 4 Warriors, 4 Warriors, 8 Warriors incl banner, 8 warrior X bow and 12 levy bow.

Anglo Danes lose all troops in the ensuing battle. The Normans lose 12 mounted warriors and 7 X bow. This is a game where points are achieved each turn by having troops within the three terrain pieces, the most important lesson on this game is to use double moves accept the fatigue and get some points first turn, the Normans did this even though going second getting 12 points to nil and from then on Conor is on the back foot trying to make up the difference. Missile troops were very useful as it is an 8 turn game and they could whittle down the enemy without being close enough to be charged, except the x bow who are obviously stupid and got wrecked in close combat losing 7 figures in turn 4.

In the post battle sequence

Norman dead calculated as 12 warriors mounted and 7 X bow. Anglo Danes everything including an heroic Norman charge killing the Warlord in turn 7, unnecessary to win the game but very satisfying to take down his warlord. Anglo danes therefore have 2 dead Hearth and 4 dead warriors removed from their roster. Normans lose 3 mounted warriors and 2 Xbow from their roster. Norman take 2 warriors and the Irish take 2 warriors as reserves adding to the campaign roster. The Norman warband though having won 2 games now is looking weak with only 3 points able to take to the field defending again will be the only option next turn as to weak to attack.

The Normans gain 1 campaign point and as defending reputation is increased by 1.

Norman role on the fate table and get Fame so add a further point of reputation. The Anglo danes receive 2D6 levy reinforcements and role 4 so start a slot of levy. The Anglo Danes then role for the ‘killing’ of warlord and get the least harm done so lose 1 attack for the rest of the campaign and they must defend next turn.

Again the fighting was brutal and the casualties high not sure that the campaign has the legs to go the distance with the troop replacement rate but we shall see how it develops. This is a bloody scenario as you are forced into contesting the terrain immediately as the points are accrued each turn there is no sitting back or using hit and run tactics to wear the enemy down. Good luck if you fight the Irish on this one recommend that you have a read of their battleboard beforehand or you are going to suffer badly.

James Viking cowardly fail to engage their enemy and pay Danegeld to the Irish, Nick assumes leadership of Jame’s Vikings inspiring them to greater things, THERE WILL BE BLOOD. GAME REPORTS

Robert Guisard raids Nicks Vikings:  Scenario the challenge.

Robert Guisard Henceforth known as the MAD gets first turn and piles his warlord into the Viking Warlord unsupported receiving more wounds than he gives out to his opponent. Erik retreats towards his troops that are behind the woods keeping out of the way of the Norman missile troops.  The MAD then advances again trying to get to Erik leaves himself exposed with no supporting troops, the Vikings launch the Berserkers against the MAD double moving to get to him but using FRIG to remove the fatigue and rolling 16 attack dice with rerolls on misses they achieve 13 hits and needless to say the MAD fails to cancel enough of them and so falls in battle.  The Vikings are thus victorious.

Post battle phase: Robert Guisard is ransomed back to the Normans for 1 wealth. The Normans add 1 Hearth to their roster. Rolls fate and receives levy reinforcements.

The Vikings Add 1 wealth for ransom, add 1 reputation for win and 1 campaign point for winning battle. Adds 2 warriors to their roster. Fate roll gives Warlord experience and the roll on the table gives SKILLED WARRIOR.

Edouard De Ville raids Conors Anglo Danes: scenario Battle at the Ford

Edouard suffers no losses shooting the Anglo Danes to ruins then charging in with his knights to finish them off and crossing the river in the last 2 turns to secure a victory. Gains 1 wealth for winning the raid and 1 campaign point. Adds 1 Hearth as reinforcement and on the fate roll receives 7 Levy

Conor loses 4 Hearth and 16 warriors in the fight, meaning 1 Hearth and 4 warriors removed from his roster. Adds 4 Levy as reinforcements and then on the fate roll receives a further 10 Levy.

Another scenario where having no missile troops was a massive disadvantage.

Bens vikings were seen around the ford in Aileens territory and she promptly sent a force to counter them, this is the 2nd time in a month she had encountered them near her land.

On one flank she took some hearthguard and war hounds whilst on the other some more hearthguard and a unit of warriors. The Viking warlord supported by some warriors came screaming across a bridge and made short work of the warriors, the hearthguard countered and spilled plenty of blood for the Irish. The warlord charged them and wiped them all out but in the combat he was taken down, at the moment his fate is unknown.

The other side was more cagey now, held by the hearthguards and dogs whilst Aileen rushed over to see what had happened at the bridge and make short work of some warriors who were thinking of crossing. The dogs made a suicide charge against the sling armed levy and this allowed a unit of warriors and hearthguard to sneak across the ford on to Irish land.

As the battle neared its end it was obvious that Aileens hearthguard were all that stood in the way of a Viking victory, they just had to destroy the enemy. In the final turn they charged the hearthguard and needed to wipe them out, poor dice rolls meant no kills and they had to pull back. Aileen shouted for a better effort and they charged a final time, they took down the 3 enemy required which meant a very hard earned 3-2 victory for the Irish with the very last roll of the game.
