Game report: 2
The Anglo Danes raid the peace loving Norman lands seeking plunder, Conor having the learned trait gets to choose the scenario from either sacred ground, escort or harry and burn and elects for the sacred round scenario.
The Anglo Dane force is Warlord, 4 hearth, 4 hearth, 8 Warriors and 8 warriors.
Norman force is Warlord, 4 Warriors, 4 Warriors, 8 Warriors incl banner, 8 warrior X bow and 12 levy bow.
Anglo Danes lose all troops in the ensuing battle. The Normans lose 12 mounted warriors and 7 X bow. This is a game where points are achieved each turn by having troops within the three terrain pieces, the most important lesson on this game is to use double moves accept the fatigue and get some points first turn, the Normans did this even though going second getting 12 points to nil and from then on Conor is on the back foot trying to make up the difference. Missile troops were very useful as it is an 8 turn game and they could whittle down the enemy without being close enough to be charged, except the x bow who are obviously stupid and got wrecked in close combat losing 7 figures in turn 4.
In the post battle sequence
Norman dead calculated as 12 warriors mounted and 7 X bow. Anglo Danes everything including an heroic Norman charge killing the Warlord in turn 7, unnecessary to win the game but very satisfying to take down his warlord. Anglo danes therefore have 2 dead Hearth and 4 dead warriors removed from their roster. Normans lose 3 mounted warriors and 2 Xbow from their roster. Norman take 2 warriors and the Irish take 2 warriors as reserves adding to the campaign roster. The Norman warband though having won 2 games now is looking weak with only 3 points able to take to the field defending again will be the only option next turn as to weak to attack.
The Normans gain 1 campaign point and as defending reputation is increased by 1.
Norman role on the fate table and get Fame so add a further point of reputation. The Anglo danes receive 2D6 levy reinforcements and role 4 so start a slot of levy. The Anglo Danes then role for the ‘killing’ of warlord and get the least harm done so lose 1 attack for the rest of the campaign and they must defend next turn.
Again the fighting was brutal and the casualties high not sure that the campaign has the legs to go the distance with the troop replacement rate but we shall see how it develops. This is a bloody scenario as you are forced into contesting the terrain immediately as the points are accrued each turn there is no sitting back or using hit and run tactics to wear the enemy down. Good luck if you fight the Irish on this one recommend that you have a read of their battleboard beforehand or you are going to suffer badly.
